About the Songs

Teresha Lee

It has been a great privilege to spend the past year writing, singing and recording songs for this CD. I know the process has certainly brought me closer to God in so many ways and I am very excited to share my experiences about God with others so that they may also relate and possibly draw closer to Him as well. My writing songs for the album was actually not originally my focus, because I really didn’t know if my songs were strong enough. So originally I planned to sing songs by other Christian artists that I have enjoyed in my life and that have moved me and spoken to my heart. But then as time went on I knew that I really wanted to include some of my own songs as well, so I decided to take a step of faith and include two of them.

My plan and hope is that I will be able to do another CD soon and that 90% of it will be my own songs, so I am concentrating on writing more now. I would appreciate prayers for God to help me express His glory through my writing, as I know that I can’t do it alone.

The first song,  Because of Him, is the title cut of the CD, and I wrote it about my life after really giving myself over fully to God, after all those years of being a lukewarm Christian and not really being plugged in to him.

This next song was inspired by prayer during one particular session when I had asked God to please help me write a special song from the Holy Spirit. And those of you who write anything know that it’s not very easy to just sit down with nothing planned and write. But that very same day, not 20 minutes after I prayed, the words and the melody and the bridge to this song came pouring through me. It was definitely from God and it was thrilling. It’s called ‘Inside your Victory” and it’s about living in the victory of the Cross.

As it says in John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son to die, so that whoever believe in him will not perish, but will have everlasting life. God did not send him to condemn the world, but to save it.”

But living in the victory of the cross isn’t always easy. Sometimes we still struggle with living by our own power and that is really self defeating. Once I was listening to a sermon about the cross and a pastor said that we really don’t fully believe in God’s saving grace when we hang on to guilt or shame, and that really hit me. I began to see that I needed to show my faith in what Jesus did for me by forgiving myself as he had done and by trusting more in his saving grace. So it is up to each of us to believe in him and have faith in his promise and to live in victory of the cross each and every day, and that’s what this song is about.

Put before ON MY KNEES

Another part of my journey to becoming closer to God and really having a personal relationship with him has been due to the power of prayer.

Phil. 4:6 says “Don’t worry about anything. Instead pray about everything. Ask God for what you need and give thanks to him for all he gives. If you do this you will experience God’s peace which is far greater than anything the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Personally the closer I came to God, the more I could see and hear his answers to my prayers in my daily life and feel and sense his presence and it was very exciting and comforting. I suddenly knew that I had a wonderful Heavenly Father looking out for me and protecting me and loving me and it was the most wonderful realization in my life. I had felt so alone for many years, but once God became the one that I was able to cling to and depend on, I began to talk to him whenever I would pray and it was a great source of comfort and joy.

So this song speaks about being able to pray, wherever we go and no matter where we are. “On My Knees’
